    Worship Resource Part 2

    June 13, 2016 /

By Holly Scheer Emma Squire created a lovely set of worship resources to use with children to help them be involved in church services. You can read the post and download the original set of pages here. While we at the Sisters are largely liturgical and traditional in our churches, we know that some churches aren’t as familiar with the technical terms. With that in mind, this new version will be appropriate for churches that have people less familiar with liturgical terms. Emma has created a sweet teaching tool that will help learners old and new learn more about the worship service! Let’s help all of our kids learn and grow…

A New Resource for Parenting in the Pew- “Worship Notes for Kids”

    June 8, 2016 /

By Emma Squire I was looking for a way to engage my 8 year old a bit more in the worship service, but also to have a personal spot to put her prayers, memory work, and questions during the week. She can read the liturgy with us, but has a tendency to tune out the sermon, readings, and prayers after the first few minutes! After searching online for resources to draw her into these parts of the service more, I decided to create something myself.  My intention is to put these pages into a binder that she can bring to church each Sunday and review during the week during her…

    On Lenten Worship with Children

    March 7, 2016 /

By Shelley Mielke Last night’s midweek Lenten worship.  Full of pondering and solemnity and introspection and a deepening understanding of what our Savior did for us on the cross.  Yes? Yes it was.  There many times during the service when I closed my eyes and soaked up the words I was hearing and singing.  More than once my heart was stirred. But did I mention I also (re: always) attend church with my five children?  Yessiree!  I wouldn’t have it any other way, of course, because worshiping with my children is hands-down one of the best things I can do with them.  Raising them in the faith is the single-most important…

Stuff Some Rolls in your Purse (on bringing the liturgy home)

    December 3, 2015 /

By Emily Cook It’s time for the Divine Service! Our Sunday Feast! Here, the gifts of God are poured out in so much abundance that one can hardly take it all in! It’s going to be a party! Oh wait, I have children. Never mind. It’s going to be a battle. If you have children, you know they aren’t exactly interested in taking it all in. They’re not there for the “food,” so to speak. They are their to wave to their friends, to drop the offering with a loud clatter on the floor, to lick the hymnals, and to color on their dress pants. So what’s a mother to…

Comfort for Those Tending to the Lord’s Littlest Sheep, Part 3

    June 30, 2015 /

By Keri Wolfmueller Tricks of the Trade and Quiet Activities for Young Children Thanks for joining the conversation about having children in church!  Please see Part 1 and Part 2. I’m just as normal as you.  However, I’m going to boldly assert a “Top Ten” list of helpful things to know and practice when you have little ones with you in church.  This is not the Ten Commandments.  This list holds no value regarding your salvation.  You therefore are free. Every parent is unique and sets their own standards of what is acceptable for their child.  Every child is unique.  Some respond to discipline.  Some respond to rewards.  Some naturally aim…
